Wide-eyed optimist looking for a sarcastic Saggitarius Airplanes in your window, I don't want to break your confidence Spying for a look-see that blow my impressment with the sound of happyment I'll gladly not harbor your boats, knowin' that in a house of resentment nothing grows This unlikely pair, this unlikeable prune, it's a cream-puff wedding of two Underachievers and nancy boys abound, waiting on the weather In the sleeping house Where we're at arms length and at least two words apart Catalogue reaction, pleasant inconsistencies, a sally on your toes Makes a better breakfast I know Where your sweet sin scenery sleeps Those moving words dressing up I've got a pretty good idea who I'm standing on I'll gladly not follow your voice, Maybe a phrase or two This unlikely pair, this unlikeable prune, it's a cream-puff wedding of two Underachievers and nancy boys abound, waiting on the weather To settle down

Yeah, you're my warm cherry center In a blanket of double brown chocolate kiss You're my pineapple cider You're the worm in my grapefruit I'm sorry I can help you Hundreds of battles And lovely notes That tired old horsey It's a good lay Oh, you'd like that Woohoo, hoohoo Eat shit On a bus budget The standard height of some The body had a song Nobody, ah, come on I'll come on Sunday And move it This is some nightmare I am sharing with all of you Falling in clumps To follow my feet Hundreds of battles And lovely notes That tired old horsey It's a good lay Oh, you'd like that Breeubreeubree Forgetting the fingers in your dress Waiting for the spring To open up the window Got a rope, that's a smile Dig deep graves Press those lips around you All he needs is a good talking to

Waiting thru a river of stars Our lips touch like butterflies from a cannon Taking belly-button baths with Mr.Neptune And my hippopotamus Tennis shoes on Moonlight bounces off the ocean And gets stuck in your hair Does my voice not have wings? Yours are the only ears I wanna disco when I say You're the one I'm breathing for Putting a raisin under your pillow And a couple in your heart to fall out when you laugh Like a volcano laughs at a Chinese octopus You need a cat for chasing angels out of the kitchen A blue crab apple spider Makes a web out of banana cream Does my voice not have wings? Yours are the only ears I wanna disco when I say You're the one I'm breathing for

Let out a final gasp of hope Into a darling gay world There it goes Doubt it if they'll even know I'm gone The recipe of words on how to be welcome To a heart Dodge the bombs each time And you blink You don't notice Tiny stars falling on your land Well, I'm so beclouded In your room This can't be real I could count a hundred times That I've followed your ghost into bed Or shook the receiver so A hint of your voice might fall out After 21 years of waiting for this I come to find that A day is enough for you To ask me to leave You don't notice tiny stars Falling on your land Well, I'm so beclouded In your room Whispering, "This can't be real" Unless you lied Let out a final gasp of hope Into a darling gay world There it goes Doubt it if they'll even know I'm gone You don't notice tiny stars Falling on your land Well, I'm so beclouded In your room Whispering, "This can't be real"

I don't know What is your gift to the world Many handsome eyes opened up Your little friend Learning the names Been tough to count the big jukebox Something helped me a lot Your little friend The telephone only lets me borrow The comforts of your voice Then it's you to enjoy Let's make a pact Allow me that dream The telephone only lets me borrow The comforts of your voice Like we have a choice Let's make a pact Allow me the dream Notes being played How you care to the face Add another gem to the world No fireworks Letter number 6001 on return Dose off and let her quietly mosey on in The telephone only lets me borrow The comforts of your voice Like we have a choice Let's make a pact Allow me the dream The telephone only lets me borrow the comforts of your voice Then it's you to enjoy Let's make a pact Allow me the dream

One in a thousand black friendlies Pitching we all should meet In the freak-out place Where a birdhouse waits For a banger's make-up badge Up black songs Shiny's all I see The good you started to tug on Silent colored goose sleeping on a fire And Telly snaps far and back into his bed It's easy to push down with my puny hand Shiny's all I see The good you started to tug on
9.
Your hands are on this It's unwound, thanks for asking I very rarely get angry Basically, I think you're fucked You won't know I wrote this song about you For goodness sake, alive and bending And bending You make me so mad You don't put it any effort I'm so sick of trying I don't want to give up on you This is all the room I want The bed is gone, of course, he blanked I know my face below twigs crack I watched the ball, it hit the ground You won't know I wrote this song about you For goodness sake, alive and bending

Standing behind the counter Making all kinds of mistakes Woody Allen couldn't have made a funnier film than you Standing there pushing, pushing Winter off of autumn Sweeping sunlight off the sidewalk On the pavement in the park Hiding behind my scarf I'm making rude comments to myself Playing that I'm Mr. Invisible Nobody sees me Leaning there saying, saying I'm just another voice in an ocean of voices Thankful Happy mood swings softly While you put in a half-day's work I'm just waking up and shaking The sleep out of my hair Leaning there saying, saying I don't want to take the time To work things out, I'm so lazy Thankful

The man in the bathroom keeps on taking my photograph While telling me that bugs don't like music I trained them all to answer my telephone But he always runs when I try to plug him in I watched a pink lady attacking an elephant And she's got a soldier on a paper He shoots me when I'm in my underwear I can't sleep because he always wants to talk
13.
I know this kid with really long hair Likes to kiss you in public places He gives good looks And really pretty conversations, hey, hey I'm not like him, I don't speak well in any place I know this kid with a really nice clique Likes to drag you into places He takes nice walks And would like to add you to his list I know this kid with really nice feet And really big teeth, hey, hey I'm not like him, I don't ask much of you to hang out with me I know this kid with a really nice face And a really special personality He likes to stay out, sees and notes the goings-on Always likes to be in the center, hey I'm not like him, I don't ask much of you to hang out with me La da . . .

All aboard Last train leaving for Tennessee, Ohio I burnt my tongue It fucked me up for days My roommate said She hadn't seen her for some time She told me something Then asked me for advice No, I couldn't point her in any direction Shoulders roll with the tombs I found a way of life where no one matters Now it flows from my mouth Like a stroll down memory lane Yes, sir My ears perk up When they mention my name My fingers move In my pockets for fun Oh, I ain't getting married Without a bottle in both hands And a ring that shows allegiance To anything but what we have Shoulders roll with the tombs I found a way of life where no one matters Now it flows from my mouth Like a stroll down memory lane You got to love someone, got to love someone

I am age four and Uncle Anders and baby Wear me like a winter coat when you're the worst weather Rally 'round Richard, quite a handful He's a mad apple first and foremost My family is my island I better get down Thinking the plane into the ground I'm like that guy who couldn't figure out The water from the sky A fat voice, a mind adrift Fit for a comfortable smile Baby Washington pulled over Eat a mossed melon He knows a slow roller But he's doing the green apple quick step Anders in kurrajongs passed the bridge Oh, Richard's taking in the scenes He's a horny little salad My family is my oyster I better get down Thinking the plane into the ground I'm like that guy who couldn't figure out The water from the sky A fat voice, a mind adrift Fit for a comfortable smile

about

Essentially of Montreal's first recordings, The Early Four Track Recordings compiles Kevin Barnes' work prior to Cherry Peel.

Don't let the title mislead you -- this album contains some of the best of Montreal songs you will ever hear. The stripped down nature of the recordings allows Kevin's songwriting ability to shine through -- providing insight and depth into his early development and experimentation with the craft.

From its artwork (which features images of psychotic children in chains, mole-birds and bizarre skull creatures) to song titles describing a story involving Dustin Hoffman that is never addressed within the songs themselves, The Early Four Track Recordings is one of of Montreal's more unusual albums -- and also one its most satisfying.
