The creator of what’s now cliché had some funny words to say
“All you little things are incomplete”
Why did he speak of us that way?
I don’t cry not ’cause I don’t care
It’s very hard to feel the way we used to feel up there
The creator of what’s now cliché
Wants us little things to cry and feel alone
But don’t don’t lose hope no no no no
No no no don’t feel sad ’cause it’s a violent world
But there’s still beauty
I’ll take care of you if you take care of me
I like to sit and listen to the sound
Of the snowflakes landing on the trees
But I can’t get used to feeling cold
I can’t get used to what has happened here to you and me
There’s no escaping so I won’t try
It’s just the heaviness that comes with knowing you will never die

Alvvays has always been great, but with this album they took it to the next level. Every one of these songs is lodged in my brain now, permanently (in a good way). s. moxley

Throughout this album, somehow, Sufjan makes me care about the state of Illinois. From detailed depictions of various landmarks and folklore, to moments of deep personal introspection; Illinois builds an incredibly dense narrative out of it's seemingly simple concept. The variety of sounds on this album is remarkable, compelling me to smile in one moment, then leaving me a sobbing mess in the next. One of the very few albums I'd consider to be 100% perfect. As far as indie albums in the 2010's and beyond go, this is one of the most cohesive and emotive albums I've experienced looking back on it and is Jay Som's best album tokyonoir
