I want to live in an elephant coma
I want a second chance, sweet, sweet second chance
Dropped your glasses in the toilet
Punched the mirror in the restaurant bathroom
She likes boys, boys who wear cologne
She lets them take her home to her place
Mess up her face
Doctor arrests you for getting sick
Puts you away for a long time
Says you'll be released when you're better
But they didn't ever come
Throughout this album, somehow, Sufjan makes me care about the state of Illinois. From detailed depictions of various landmarks and folklore, to moments of deep personal introspection; Illinois builds an incredibly dense narrative out of it's seemingly simple concept. The variety of sounds on this album is remarkable, compelling me to smile in one moment, then leaving me a sobbing mess in the next. One of the very few albums I'd consider to be 100% perfect.
